1960: Birth Control Pill Introduced in U.S.
The combined oral contraceptive pill (COCP), often referred to as the birth control pill or colloquially as "the pill", was first approved for contraceptive use in the United States in 1960, and became a very popular form of birth control, faciliating the separation of human procreative activity from sexual activity for pleasure and intimacy.
